I love the abstract images that one can find in nature. I love the details of nature. It’s interesting, and somewhat challenging, to find the shapes and shadows, and adds an interesting dimension to hiking and nature photography that I really enjoy.

Great Blue Heron at Nisqually
Great Blue Heron at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. An interesting bird to watch. Found one the other day up in the tree hiding among some cormorants. It just sat there quietly while the cormorants were fly back and forth, right in the middle.
Downy Woodpecker
These little guys can sometimes be like watching a blur. Happened to catch this one because I was chatting with a couple of other hikers on the trail and it flew right in the tree near us. The problems tends to be lights and sometimes not enough time to adjust for the shadows. But not so bad here.

Dove
Love seeing these doves when I’m out walking. Their call reminds me a bit of an owl’s hoot sometimes early in the morning.
Common Merganser
I love these little Mergansers. Their “punkish” hairstyle makes my day. Too cute. Such a fun subject to photograph.
American Coot
It’s unfortunately been a while since I’ve been able to post. We’ve moved past the “big move” now, although still unpacking boxes. I think that’s going to be forever. Here’s an American Coot duck from Nisqually Wildlife Refuge.
Hippity Hop on the Bunny Trail
Some seasons I see quite a few rabbits, others I don’t. This alert little guy was at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge just as we were walking the last bit of the trail. It stayed around just long enough for me to get a shot or two before it hopped away into the long grass.
Flicker, not Flickr
Walking down toward the river one sunny day, I saw these flickers having their way with a bit of wood. Northern Flickers, a subspecies of the woodpecker family, love their wood and love to peck. A pair of flickers and they stayed around for quite a while offering me a lovely photo opportunity.
